A California transplant, an antiquarian, a sports-lover, a loving husband and a great father - there are many ways to describe Sam. Though he has many layers, he is also Shaker Painting's spotlight employee for this month.
He moved out to Colorado in 2008 from Los Angeles, California, and has not looked back because he absolutely loves it here.
His hobbies vary from bicycling, collecting beautiful antiques (like vintage paint items shown below), appreciating astronomy, to spending time with his family, going to concerts, sporting events, and comedy shows.
His most prized possession is a coin from 85-42 BC! It is said to have been inspired by a denarius issued by Marcus Junnius Brutus, who conspired against Caesar. A Thracian (Getic-Dacian) king, Coson (who was allied with Brutus), is said to have furnished the gold that Brutus used.
According to several Roman historians, the coin was theorized to have been struck between 44 and 42 BC, and they’ve implied the Coson/Brutus origin is accurate.
Attention to detail is crucial to a project manager’s job requirements, and this transfers over well from his hobbies and interests.
Sam’s favorite part of the day are his tranquil mornings, before his family – mostly his kids - wakes up, and he gets to spend time drinking coffee and organizing his to-do list prior to digging in. He is passionate for what he does in his free time and brings that same love and appreciation of high standards to work. Diligence is portrayed not just through résumés but through showing up and being ready to work no matter what is being thrown at you.
"I have been in the painting industry for over 15 years, mostly working with general contractors and new construction projects," he proudly says.
At Shaker Painting, Sam is one of the Project Managers. As a project manager, he is first and foremost responsible for quality assurance, safety implementation, scheduling, and communicating.
Sam works together with general contractors, subcontractors, and other team members. He plays a crucial role in nearly every project and makes sure things are done correctly and efficiently. Leading with confidence, he makes sure everyone around him stays up to date with what they must do, and he communicates up and down the ladder of whatever project he’s taken on with ease, grace, and professionalism.
His personality at work reflects what his favorite hero, Kobe Bryant, loved to advocate earnestly: "The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they do." That is exactly how he behaves on a day-to-day basis.
