A Hoosier at heart who dabbles in all things artistic, adventurous and green, Jason Moore is Shaker Painting’s employee spotlight this month.

Jason grew up in Indiana, attending Indiana University to study environmental science. His interest in his studies outweighed his midwest roots, and he picked up and moved to Colorado the moment he saved up enough after school. Those interests, in addition to drawing and painting in his free time, have sparked unique hobbies today – and be warned – you may become more zen just by reading about them.

“A new hobby I picked up a few years ago that bridges the gap between art and my interest in plants and biology is keeping bonsai trees,” Jason said. “I find it meditative to work on them, and it requires meticulous planning and execution to create the style you want over several years after an initial idea or vision you want to achieve.”

For those who do not know, the below is a picture of a bonsai tree, which is trained using sophisticated techniques to remain small in size. They range in size from just 3 inches to about 6 feet only.

Bonsai is a fascinating art-form that combines horticultural techniques and Asian aesthetics in a unique way, according to Bonsai Empire. The art originated in the Chinese empire and was copied and adapted by the Japanese to what we know now as Bonsai trees, Bonsai Empire further explains. "Bon-sai" literally translated means "planted in a container."

On a similar note, Jason and his wife also spend a lot of time growing their own food and gardening. They love to hike, camp, and travel as much as they can. They have an amazing dog, Mango, and cat, Snoop, who are best friends.

At Shaker Painting, Jason is a Project Estimator, to which he was recently promoted, moving from repaint estimating to estimating new construction and ground up construction projects. This transition means he will be studying plan sets and blue prints for new buildings that do not exist yet and creating estimates from those plans rather than measuring existing buildings for painting.

“I hope to expand my skills as an estimator and also gain a better understanding of the construction industry as a whole,” he said. “Initially, my focus will be learning the new software, and gaining a more thorough knowledge of blueprint comprehension and site plans. I will remain focused on learning the skills I need to be successful, and gaining full understanding of the needs of our clients in this new market because it tends to be more data and number-driven than our repaint market.”

Jason’s journey from Project Manager in 2017, when he joined the Shaker team, to a Project Estimator today reflects his favorite part of the company’s values: growth.

“I feel that at this point in my career, personal growth and learning new skills is the most important thing I can do to continue improving,” Jason said. “I’ve also seen Shaker grow as a company not only in terms of number of employees, but in professionalism, and the way we operate as well. It has been exciting to be a part of.”

Jason’s adventurous energy and contribution to Shaker Painting is greatly appreciated. We are looking forward to witnessing his continuous growth in his new role and as a leader.

It is my great pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for Shaker Painting Inc. Shaker Painting recently completed a full exterior trim replacement and paint of our five-story building, Broadway Junction, at 1165 Broadway, Denver CO. The Shaker team conducted themselves with professionalism and performed in a manner that was the least disruptive to all parties affected by the work. Closing-off parking spaces, managing staging area(s) for materials and the overall safety for pedestrians were some of the challenges presented to Shaker.
