Painting contractors have a huge responsibility for the safety of their employees, partners and customers while working some pretty precarious projects.
Shaker Painting is proud to have gone three years without a single workplace accident; a huge milestone for any company. In over two decades of operation, Shaker Painting is proud to report only two records of safety incidents to date.
It is no secret that we take this commitment to zero workplace incidents very seriously.
In a study done by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, falls were the most common nonfatal injury among construction painters — accounting for 63.7% of all nonfatal injuries.
According to the Associated Builders and Contractors 2020 Safety Performance Report, an average of three people are fatally injured every workday in the construction industry.
Here’s how we stay zero strong:
- Toolbox Talks
Our project managers conduct bi-weekly Toolbox Talks at every job site, which includes discussions about best safety practices and specific strategies for each unique project. This keeps our team proactive and prepared for any potential hazards we could encounter on the job.
We also host mandatory monthly safety trainings for all team members involved with Shaker projects. During monthly meetings, we also review overall safety goals, responsibilities, and general health and safety guidelines. This ensures everyone has a plan no matter the potential emergency or risk, ranging from a Hazard Communication Plan to a Fall Protection Plan and a Scaffold Safety Plan. - Our Production Team is OSHA-30 Certified
Shaker Painting’s values of trust and safety are ingrained into the culture of the company. Everyone on the production team is OSHA-30 certified, with project managers equipped with years of experience both on the job and in safety training programs. Our project managers are trusted to assess the safety of job sites daily, while providing our crews with safety solutions.
While the 10-Hour OSHA training course is sufficient for many entry-level workers in this industry, Shaker Painting requires all supervisors, site leads and managers to complete the 30-Hour OSHA training. - Communication
We will never undersell the importance of communication. Without it, even safety training can become ineffective. Before a project even begins, our production team communicates our expectations with all crews. Let’s be real: you have to have a plan if you’re going to be 100 feet in the air, working from the largest lift in a four-state area (see below)!
Keeping an open dialogue from start to finish during a project will ensure the best results from all parties – we keep frequent contact with our customers, too! This open dialogue also reinforces discussions we have at our bi-weekly Toolbox Talks and monthly safety meetings.

Our safety success is a reflection of how we treat everyone we work with – and the thoughtful work we put into each and every project we take on. We stay devoted to safety, setting business with Shaker Painting apart from the rest.
